Fuel Bug & Water Found in Tanks

Primary Filter Clogged

This 40ft Cat came to us as one of the engines was running rough before suddenly dying while the boat was in use. Upon our initial investigation we found the primary fuel filter was very dirty with diesel bug built up excessively in the filter. This was a very obvious indicator that the fuel was contaminated and after further investigation it was decided that the tanks would be removed, cleaned and have new inspection ports fitted. All components of the fuel system were removed & cleaned with new fuel lines being installed.

Exhaust Elbows Rotted

We also found the exhaust elbows were rotted through due to the carbon build up stopping the water from flowing. This caused the saltwater to sit in the blockage and eat its way through the elbow walls. Both elbows were replaced as they had both had saltwater rot.

Tanks Sent Away

The tanks were pulled, cleaned and repairs were done. Once the tanks had come back we installed new access ports for future ease of use. The tanks were then plumbed back into the fuel system. Once the whole system was replumbed we were ready for sea-trialling and ran the engines with clean fuel.
